7 Types of Logo Design
Getting Started
When looking to create a successful new brand, one must consider what type of logo they are looking for. Think of a logo like a car, there are a lot of types out there and each serves a unique purpose and has a specific function.
If you are starting the process of creating your new logo or brand identity but you don’t know what you are looking for here, we can help you out. Here are 7 types of logo designs to give you some guidance.
Monograms
Monogram logos are created by combining different letters and letterforms. They are composed entirely of type or a typographic treatment. Usually, the focus of the logo are the initials of your brand or an acronym representing your brand. The letters can be modified and altered, but preserving their legibility is important. Having a monogram logo does not mean your brand needs to be boring. Many brands have created memorable and impactful monogram logos that are clever and creative.
Wordmark
Similar to a monogram, a wordmark is a type-based logo, but instead of focusing simply on the initial or key letter of your business, the design is around the full name of your logo.
Symbols
Symbols are probably one of the most “famous” types of logos out there. A symbol logo is an icon/graphic based logo. This normally means that it is based around the first initial thought or visual association that comes to mind when you say the business name.
Abstract Marks
An abstract mark consists of a type of symbol logo. Where it differs from an icon logo is that it is an abstract geometric mark that presents your business but not in a literal sense.
Mascots
Mascot logos are logos that involve an illustrated character. These logos tend to be more graphic and intricate.
Combination Mark
This type of logo is really a combination of all the previous logotypes we discussed previously. They combine all the elements of and incorporate it into a unique logo mark.
Emblem Logo
An emblem logo is structured similarly to a combination mark but the logo is designed to fit the text inside of a symbol or icon.
